GoldSrc leaderboards verification rules update

Hey guys!

An update to Bunnymod XT was released, allowing runners to save the run data (final timer value, gameover event etc.) inside demos. This means that the runners are no longer required to include a screenshot/video together with the runs when submitting them to speedrun.com leaderboards for GoldSrc games.

Therefore, some small rule changes:
  • You are now required to use the latest Bunnymod XT version for speedruns.
  • The _bxt_save_runtime_data_in_demos CVAR must be set to 1 (default value).
  • You are no longer required to include a screenshot/video when submitting a run, demos are enough.

Happy running!

Introducing a command whitelist in GoldSrc game leaderboards & other changes

Hello everyone,

Recently we had a discussion in our Discord server about allowing and disallowing some certain console-exclusive commands that were being used in various speedrunning techniques. The commands in question were:

  • bxt_hud_viewangles
  • bxt_hud_entity_hp
  • bxt_hud_distance
  • bxt_hud_origin
  • bxt_hud_selfgauss
  • cl_yawspeed
  • cl_pitchdown
  • thirdperson
  • s_show

We held a community vote to decide which commands should be allowed and which ones should be banned, as well as introducing a command whitelist to handle the rule. Another subject that came up was splitting the scripted categories into Savewarp% and No savewarp%. 30 out of 56 runners have voted, you can view the results here.

From now on..

  • All submitted runs are required to follow the command whitelist. If your run uses a disallowed command it will get rejected, so make sure to update your binds and configs accordingly. If you are playing on a default config, you are good to go. Every setting available in the game’s menu is also allowed to be used.
  • The scripted category is split into two: one for runs with the Savewarping/Wrongwarping tricks and one for runs without them. Runs have been transferred to corresponding categories.

Some proposed changes for the Half-Life leaderboards

posted in: Blue Shift, GoldSrc, Half-Life, Opposing Force | 7

Hi everyone,

There’s been alot of discussion in our Discord server recently regarding a number of ideas for the future of Half-Life speedrunning and its leaderboards, so today we’ll be bringing these propositions forward to the whole community to decide if they should be implemented.

The proposed changes:

  • Banning the ‘wait’ command in “Scriptless” runs

This topic has been brought up again since the discovery of a new method of CLD (changelevel delay); explanation here: https://www.twitch.tv/yalter/v/65085163
If implemented, current runs using ‘wait’ would remain on the leaderboards as legitimate because up until now using this command has barely saved any time, so current runs are beatable without it.

  • Adding a PS2 category/game

Half-Life PS2 runner, SuperFrizzio, has been on our backs about this for some time now, so we figured it was finally time to end the silence and come to a decision 😛

  • Merging difficulties (Easy + Hard in one category)

This would mean that the main categories for speedrun.com/hl1 would be simplified to just WON and Steam, with a difficulty variable being added so that ‘Hard WR’ can still be claimed.
